Lyon College

Lyon College is an independent, residential, co-educational, undergraduate liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Founded in 1872, it is the oldest independent college in Arkansas. Lyon is a closely knit teaching and learning community distinguished by its honor system, innovative residential house system, and endowed Nichols International Studies program. Lyon is classified as a baccalaureate (liberal arts) college by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and is included in the top tier of the country’s best liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report, which also rates it as a best value on its “Great Schools, Great Prices” list. Lyon emphasizes the development of character as well as intellect. It provides extensive opportunities for students to assume leadership responsibilities, collaborate with faculty on research projects, study abroad, and explore career opportunities through internships.

Lyon confers the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, and offers majors in accounting, art, biochemistry, biology, business administration, chemistry, computer science, early childhood/elementary education, economics, English, history, mathematics, music, political science, psychology, religion and philosophy, Spanish, and theater. Students may also design an individualized major. The College also offers pre-professional programs leading to careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, veterinary science, education, law and ministry.
